Time RXS pedals

This is my third pair of Time RXS pedals from PBK. They all work great. Bearings are smooth, I guess the only thing to do is upgrade to the latest pedals from Time.

Nice Pedals

I purchased these Time RXS Carbon pedals because they are a more recent version of the Old Time Pedals I bought 25 years ago. A lot has changed since then. 233 grams for this new pair compared to 465 grams for my pair of old ones. The Pros: Great Price Light Weight Once clipped, you feel like your feet are welded to your crankset even though some movement is possible Great transfer of power to the drivetrain because the bottom of your feet are closer to the pedal axis, just like the old ones with the 9,5 mm offset ! The Cons: Yes, they are light. But I doubt they would survive a fall and slide. The cleats are made of soft plastic, which makes them squeak a bit when climbing hills. I hope they thougt about replacement cleats with harder plastic and a bit more metal... Like the old Time cleats. Hard to clip to your pedals, and I think the soft plastic is responsible for that fact. The front of the cleat is too soft. I will definitely search for replacement cleats. If they don't exist, I hope this review get to their factory ! Cheers !

Once set-up, wonderful pedals

I have been into mountain biking since the early-90s. I finally got into road biking around 5-6 years ago. I have had Shimano MTB pedals since 1998 and bought new pairs for each of my bikes. Going one shoe and one cleat style for all of my bikes was great, but as i started getting more serious about road biking, I realized there are som efficiencies that MTB shoes simply can't provide. Among those are low deck heights from foot to pedal axle, stiffer shoes, and some adjustability. It was nice to be able to walk into a store while riding without slipping all over the place, or hearing my cleats try to destroy the floor, but I knew it was time to upgrade. I found a ridiculous deal on shoes and then needed to get pedals. I looked at the Shimanos, and though they are nice and would match my 6770 drivetrain, I wanted something a little lighter. Speedplays looked great, but I rode 515s, 520s, 540s and XT pedals for over a decade for a reason, I don't really want to have to worry about greasing my pedals/cleats. I had read that the Look pedals squeak, especially for the heavier guys, at 90 kg myself, I didn't need that. Squeaks are the worst IMO when I'm on a ride. So I landed on the Time RXS, low maintenance, low weight, strong enough, and very "positive" engagement while leaving me with plenty of float. The engagement took me by surprise at first. I was used to the subtle click of Shimano pedals. The Time RXS engagement is the Chris King Hub sound vs. Shimano hub sound of pedal click. **CLICK** there's no doubt you are in. Then there is the "Cafe Cleat" that ships with the RXS. It's wide, and had a brass cleat for longevity, but also has landing points for walking that are wide and stable. I did a charity century this past weekend and was able to walk around at water stops and at the lunch afterward without an issue. Riders in my group that had Shimano SPD-SL cleats took their shoes off prior to lunch because, despite it being on grass, it was a pain for them to get traction comfortably. So the Keys: -Low Maintenance -Comfortable -Good float -Obvious when clipped-in Downside: -Set-up and tension take a little work to get right at first -Included instructions are a little weak I would buy again. Like them very much

Time Pedals RXS

These are a really brilliant set of pedals and I bought two set -one for each of my road bikes, They are light and easy to use and have adjustment for rotational swing. The only issue that I can see is they don't last so long due to the spring becoming loose and you can't get a replacement spring easily.

Best Road Clipless

Simply put, these are the best road clipless pedals I have ever used. They do not have the insane spring tension of Look (and the shimano derivatives), they float freely and simply last forever. I have a pair of c. 2005 vintage RXS carbons that are still running happily with ~50,000 km on them. Yes, the body is wearing (grooving), but after 50K K, I most definitely got my money out of them. I do replace cleats yearly in the spring, but I have gone through 3 pairs of Sidi's in that time... Highest praise from me.

A great pedal with a little less weight

I own a few pairs of the RSX First pedals and one of the RSX Carbon. As far as performance goes there is really no noticeable difference between the First and the Carbon. Both pedals have a positive engagement, smooth and durable bearing, low clearance, and a durable cleat. The RXS Carbon pedals are a bit lighter than the RXS First, but not by much - you decide if the few grams are worth the extra money.

Overall the RXS pedals work well. I like the "Cafe Cleat" that has the small posts in the back to protect the metal parts that engage the pedal. I also like the extremely low profile. The RXS Carbon pedals really are great pedals, but whether or not they are worth the extra money over the First is up to you.

Nice and low stack...not that durable

Very low stack height and has lateral play without too much free float. The bearingsand outer bush do require a re-pack from time to time and the cleats don't tolerate a lot of walking about (the toe piece wears out and is required to keep the system creak free

Pro performance & lots of adjustability

This carbon reinforced composite version of the Time RXS is a lightweight dream for those roadies wanting a quality svelte pedal.
There’s plenty of scope for set-up, with +/- 5 degrees of float, 2.5mm of lateral float and lateral offset adjustment, so you can tailor them for personal choice, making them especially good for anyone with any knee niggles. A plus note on the cleats is that they’re easier to walk in than most. Power delivery is superb with the low stack height – you feel every ounce of effort that you put in is transferred through the pedals.
