Have been using compact and standard before, here I would used a semi compact. It is a good set up for a very versatile club ride where you have members who can ride fast for hours and those who won't ride too fast at all plus some might climb very slow. The 52 won't drop you too far back in the fast group and the 36 would give you descent amount of climbing power on a hill.
