Very solid box

Seems like a well thought out design, especially the wheels being held to the lid with quick release skewers. The only thing I’m worried about is lining up the lid to shut properly takes some attention. I hope that’s not an issue if TSA opens it.

Good build quality - some issues with sizing

4

This a clearly well manufactured product, built from high grade materials with quality fasteners and smooth rolling wheels. Probikekit were as usual easy to deal with - as well concerning the return and refund of the item. The issue I encountered was that the box will simply not fit a 61cm frame road bike without removal of the rear derailleur - which probably doesn't sound like too large of an issue but for me was a deal breaker for a case of this price. The manufacturer specifications are ambiguous concerning the size of bike that will fit as advertised (ie with simple removal of wheels and spinning bars sideways). Another (admittedly small) issue is the thru-axle adapters do not appear to be made for 12mm thru-axles as advertised? Maybe this was a one off issue. In summary - a quality product that didn't quite fit my peculiar needs.

Awesome Case

5

I bought this case to travel from the US to an Ironman in Norway. It's very light weight, and can fit quite a bit of other gear, still staying under the 23kg (51 lb) requirement. I'll be using the case for a trip to Kona in a month.

High protection for high price machineries

5

Bought two of these for me and my wife. Travelled several times with rented bike box that disappointed me for not being very well maintained and missing part most of the time. This Scicon box is simply fantastic and allow me to box the tow bike in a matter of 20 minutes compared to 2 hours before. Running a à bike with fully integrated cables is nice, but requires a lot of work to pack. This Aerotech just requires to loosen and rotate the handlebar and remove the left pedal. It also provide high level of protection with the hard shell.

Really good bike box

5

Wow, this thing is awesome! It’s so logical to pack and can be done in just a few minutes. Everything is secure inside with plenty of extra room. I was able to add my helmet, all cycling clothing, and a floor pump with ease. It rolls very well. I had to open the box for customs and remove all the extra gear to run through an x-ray. I could repack in a minute. The thing is solid and the bike is secure inside. Very well thought out. And I like the ability to lock it up knowing the TSA won’t break it open. Closing is a bit tricky (probably in part to the extra kit inside) but not terrible. It’s expensive but I felt after our first outing it is totally worth it. It was also fun packing up in 10 minutes while my friends spent 30 minutes with their bike bags.

Broke after 2nd use

I used this for a transatlantic flight and it worked fine. However, a bit of rough handling on another transatlantic flight has left the box unusable. Firstly, it's a little unnerving having only 3 straps to hold down the frame but seemingly it does the job. My bike arrived unscathed. Build quality appears to be very good and I had high hopes for this, especially given the price clearly marking this out as a premium product. Positives: Easy to wheel around, nice to have a slot for the luggage tag, one of the lightest boxes available, integrated TSA locks Negatives: Limited strapping and padding, hard to align top and bottom of case to close properly (TSA searched my case and didn't close it properly) - could reduce strength of case if not shut properly And on to the incident: It looks like the baggage handlers dropped/threw it down so that it landed predominantly on one wheel. With the wheel securely attached to the arch, the force was transmitted into the case and caused it to crack along the groove moulded into the case which surrounds the wheel arch. Bit of a design flaw in my opinion and possibly the fact it is made from ABS plastic where a lot of the others use polyethylene. I noticed on a rival manufacturers website they said how they got started repairing the "market leading Italian bike box" before going on to describe the same failure I experienced - perhaps a long standing design flaw? In conclusion, it worked fine until it didn't. Will probably try a different product for the replacement.

Full Marks

Because I would be flying from Sydney to Perth and then to Karratha in NWA, I decided to 'bite the bullet' and buy the Aerotech Evolution - mainly for the security of my bike. I watched the You Tube videos and found it relatively easy to pack and pad the bike. I needed to reposition the bike a couple of times to ensure that the rear derailleur cable was safely inside the box, and also experiment a bit to find the best places to store shoes, helmet, tools etc. but, now that that's done, I should be able to pack the bike much faster next time. I had some trouble ensuring that the bike case's 'tongue and groove' sections mated properly. The case has some flexibility, so care needs to be taken to ensure these are properly fitted - otherwise the locks and catches won't close properly. The case fitted into the rear of our little Mazda 3 (with the rear seats folded down) and is easy to manoeuvre. My bike arrived unmarked, so the case got full marks for protection, quality of build, manoeuvrability and attention to detail. I took advantage of PBK's big discount and trust that the case will provide me with many more years of quality service!

Awesome Bike Case

Buying the Scicon Aerotech Evolution X was a difficult decision for me due to the cost. After spending time researching other bike cases online, I decided to pull the trigger and buy the Aerotech. The main reason I bought it was peace of mind. I knew that if my bike was going to be handled by the airlines, it needed to be strong and secure. I was also reminded that we "cyclist spend a lot of money on our bikes but then cheap out when it comes to transporting them." I am glad I did purchase it, it performed well. Taking apart the bike was not difficult, I did it by myself after watching the video online. I am a small person 5' 2" and I was able to get it in and out of my SUV (you need a bigger car to transport it), and into the terminal for check-in. Though it is big, the wheels helped a lot getting it through the airport. My bike did well too. I was unharmed coming and going. It was easy to reassemble and the extra space for the derailleur also helped, everything shifted great on the ride. I would definitely recommend this bike case to anyone who is flying and cares about their bike.
