Light is great, but mount made light unusable. The thin metal locking tab would not retract fully after turning adjustment screw all the way, making it impossible to slide light/battery onto mount. Rather than return light/battery (and maybe get another with similar problem), I drilled out seat surface inside adjustment screw to allow locking pin to fully retracted. Light/battery slides onto mount and I can use the product now.
Only had the light for a couple of weeks and so far so good. Best feature is the ability to mount directly under the stem, where my previous light sat above the handlebars. Mounted where it is the twist operation works. The range of modes is good and have just downloaded the program and added another mode - no problems. There are plenty of be seen options and the being able to adjust the speed and intensity of the flash is handy. Initially had trouble getting the light off the supplied mount but just had to rotate the wheel as far as it would go and problem solved. Haven't done any night riding yet so can't comment on the full beam, hence the 4 out of 5.
Alsways liked the Knog style but this is the first i’ve bought. The light is bright enough and the mount is really solid and adaptable. Took a little looking at it to work out as is different to many but it really is easy. The off-centre to the actual Mount means you can get the light very central and can also mount under the bars. The other really impressive feature is the ability to customize the different settings by plugging into a computer. This was easy and you can add more options or just remove those you don’t use to the 2 or 3 you want. The Power bank can also be used to charge other items like your GPS, phone or other device that starts to run low. Overall this is an adaptable light build really well.
The Knog PWR Road bike light kit is made up of two modules: a 3350mAh capacity battery, described as a ’powerbank’, and a lighthead rated at 600 lumens. Larger capacity 5000mAh and 1000mAh battery modules are available, as are higher output 1000 lumens and 1800 lumens lightheads. The handlebar mount has a side arm with a thin tab which must be slid into a groove on the side of the light. At first, I did not find it easy to slide on, as the fit was so tight. It could be particularly difficult to manoeuvre in the dark. I had even more difficulty sliding the light off the mount, and was worried that I might break it. To my relief it loosened up after sliding it on and off a number of times, and was no longer an issue. Once the unit has been slid to the desired position, it is held securely with a thumb screw. Until I got the hang of it, I found this to be a little bit awkward and hard to loosen once engaged. A silicon strap could have been a better option for those who need to take the light on and off their bike to avoid theft. The light is turned on by a quarter twists anticlockwise, which I really liked as it is much easier to manage than a button, particularly with gloves on, and while riding. The last setting is remembered the next time the unit is turned on. Because it is so easy to turn the device on and off, mounting below the handle bar is an option. I was able to mount the light centrally below the bike computer, which was nicely placed out of the way, leaving the top of the bar clutter free. The light has 6 modes: the first 3 continuous and the next 3 flashing. Using the flashing modes to be seen is never going to be a problem with this light, with either the brightest flashing mode at 600 lumens, giving a claimed 8 hours runtime, and the second flashing mode 250 lumens, a claimed 12 hours. But I would think this light is aimed primarily at those wanting to see the road or trail by using its continuous light modes. The brightest mode provided a really bright and wide beam some 10 to 12 metres ahead. This was much brighter than I would need to see while road cycling, which was just as well as it has a claimed run time of only 2 hours. I found the second mode, at 350 lumens, provided a sufficiently bright and wide beam, even in poor lighting conditions, and lasted for roughly 3½ hours. The third battery saving setting, at 65 lumens, was fine where there was bright street lighting, for a claimed 23 hours runtime. The beauty of the modular design is being able to tailor the units to suit your needs. By changing up to the 1000 lumen lighthead, I could see adequately on unlit roads and paths using the third battery saving mode. The maximum mode provided a dazzling beam 15 or more metres ahead. But at full intensity with the 3350mAh battery and the 1000 lumens lighthead, run time is a mere 1.3 hours. I can’t imagine using this combination. I was surprised however that the 1000 lumen lighthead lasted approximately as long as the 600 lumen lighthead on the second setting, at about 3½ hours, and provided a an excellent illumination. An app is available to tailor the modes and intensity to your needs. I didn’t test this but it sounds like a novel feature. The units are quite sturdy yet not too heavy. The light is designed with a small cut-out so that some light is visible from the side, a good safety feature. The unit has a clear display of the charge remaining. It is recharged with a standard micro-USB, but took 7 hours to fully recharge. The powerbank also has a power out female USB socket, so if you carry the charge cable, you could charge a phone or other device off it. Verdict: An impressive road light which can be tailored to suit individual requirements. It provides an outstanding beam without being too heavy. It may however trouble those whom need to attach the light to their bike in the dark.
