Kinesis Decade Tripster Frameset

CAD

Innovation, detailing, high quality and above all adaptability.

The Tripster is a unique frameset, designed as a 'fast commuter', but it can be built in a number of different ways to exactly suit the riding style of the individual. Use it with 700c wheels, road tyres and drops, or 26' with road tyres (Kinesis recommend 1.5 minimum, 1.9 max. to keep the BB height up) and flats, or 700c and flats, or set it up with cross tyres as a weekend racer or real on/off road commuter!

Key Features:

  • The 7005 series alloy, double butted frame has its geometry based on Kinesis extremely successful Crosslight frames, but with tweaks such as longer head tubes to make it more 'commuter friendly'.
  • The frame has an 'inboard' mounted disc brake to keep it cleanly out of the way and the cables all run along the down tube, adding to the uncluttered look and feel of this frameset.
  • There is plenty of clearance for larger road tyres (700c x 33 and 26' x 1.5) and the disc brakes mean swapping wheels sizes is not a problem.
  • Specially designed drop outs (135mm hub spacing) have separate rack and mudguard mounts and there are eyeleted bridges for proper attachment.
  • The new carbon DC19 fork has disc mount and mudguard eyelets.
  • It delivers an extremely smooth ride and precise steering.
  • Frame Material: Kinesis 7005 double butted alloy.
  • The 54cm frame weighs 1700g (Manufacturer claimed).
  • Seat Post Size: 27.2mm.
  • Front Derailleur Type: 31.8mm Clamp-on.
  • Headset Type: Integrated 1-1/8" 36/45 degree bearings.
  • Bottom Bracket Type: 68mm BSA.
  • Colour: Supergloss Black .
  • Included: Frame, DC19 carbon fork, Kuk alloy seat post, seat post clamp, and headset.
  • This Kinesis frame carries a 3 year manufacturers warranty.

Fast, Precise, Adaptable

I built it up as a 26" city bike with flat bars,.rapidfire shiifters, flat-bar brake levers with road-caliper pull, Avid BB7 road disc brakes, a NOS 105 Octalink road double, and a 9-speed 12-32 mountain cluster in the back. The wheels are Fulcrum Red Power SLs with semi slick tires. This is a light frame but less so when saddled with heavy tires (1.75 x 26 Michelin City Ride II), fenders, rack, lights and tools.

Plus:
* Agile handling. Even weighing in at 27lbs (12.25 kilo) it carves corners cleanly and inspires confidence.
* Great vibration-reducing fork
* Strong braking
* Lots of clearance for fenders, brakes, and tire/wheel combinations
* Beautiful finish and good packing.

MIinus:
* What is it? Because of the adaptable frame specifications, it lacks the design features of a road bike, a mountain bike, or a hybrid. (For instance, 32mm tires on 700C wheels will absolutely "float" between the massive fork clearance. It lacks mountain bike geometry, A hybrid? Does anybody build up a hybrid from scratch?

I was looking for a good bike for our rainy PNW winters and I wanted the option to convert it into a touring bike with drop bars in the future. I like to think of it as "the bike with options". :-)
