Castelli Sanremo 4.0 Speed Suit

CAD

The Sanremo Speed Suit revolutionized the way pro riders dress when Castelli invented it back in 2011 but they are still surprised that every other manufacturer has simply copied the Sanremo front opening rather than trying to come up with something original.

While the front opening is the most visible part, Castelli has worked on every other detail to make this the perfect race suit. It's aero thanks to CFD based seaming and wind-tunnel selected fabrics. It's comfortable thanks to the body fabrics that will keep you drier and cooler than the simple Lycra fabrics used by some other companies. The lower portion of the suit is created from Castelli's Free Aero Race 4 bibshort, to make the most comfortable suit for your longest, toughest race days.

Besides the new fabrics and seam placement Castelli also worked on the pockets to make them better for racing. They're somewhat narrower for better aerodynamics but there are now 2 big pockets instead of 3 small ones, so they're easier to access in racing.

First speedsuit

This is very my first (and possibly only) speedsuit / skinsuit. It's also my first Castelli cycling clothing. Have been mainly wearing Rapha. Was looking at various brands and shortlisted to Rapha, Castelli and Santini. Rapha's aerosuit is my main choice but it's too ex and always seem to be out of stock for my size. Santini's Genio skinsuit looks good too (the bordeaux colour) and priced reasonably. But In the end chose this Castelli due to pricing (pbk's pricing is the best i've found, especially after the 15% clothing discount), design (i like simple design) and the brand's performance. The speedsuit meets my expectations - good quality, fit well. I usually wears S on rapha pro team jersey and bib, but for this sanremo i went for size M after reading multiple online comments that should size up. Lucky I did just that. The only gripe i have upon receiving it is seeing that the design slightly differs from the photos in pbk and also generally available online, even castelli's own online catalogue. It's missing the white pointed arrow stripes at the front stomach area. Very strange indeed. If anyone wants to know how it look, head over to road.cc review of the speedsuit. It looks exactly like in the article's photo. would have preferred it to have the pointed arrow design and frankly i contemplated in returning it. but figured it would be quite a hassle and since it didnt affect the function, i decided to keep it. i gave a 4 star rating due to this discrepancy. Would suggest PBK to find out why the actual design differs from the photo and clarify with castelli. It's by no means a cheap product and customers like myself dont like receiving something that's not exactly as advertised. i would be delighted if pbk can find one that's matching the photo design and offer an exchange free of charge.
